The choice of CFA or FRM depends on what interests you and what type of job you want to do in the future. Some differences are:
- CFA is more time-taking
- CFA is more costly
- CFA offers more job opportunities
- FRM is better for Risk Management jobs
- CFA has better brand value
- CFA has 3 levels and FRM has 2 exams
The FRM Exam is a multiple choice exam conducted twice a year in May and November.
CFA course has many concepts related to Risk Management. However FRM has more dept and breadth related to various aspects of risk management.
The FRM exam has 2 parts and each part of the FRM Exam is four hours long. Part I consists of 100 multiple choice questions and Part II contains 80 multiple choice questions. Part I is offered in the morning session and Part II in the afternoon session of each exam. You must pass Part I of the FRM Exam in order to have Part II graded.

You can appear for FRM anytime you like so long as you are inclined towards Risk Management and ready to devote time towards the exam.
It depends on your interest. If you want a career in investment valuation / equity research / related areas - then FRM is not for you. Rather if you are interested in areas like Credit, Market or Operational Risk / Investment Risk - FRM will surely help.
